The first full-length trailer for Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has hit the web and gives us a better look at the turtles in action!
The look of the Turtles still comes off as weird and slightly creepy when looking at them close-up, but when we’re not focused on their faces, I think they actually look pretty cool. I think I like the design of Raphael and Donatello the most but Leonardo and Michelangelo are a little questionable and look the most weird to me. I wish I had the power to convince the studio to touch up the design as I don’t think there are many things that have to change except to alter shape of the head a little and drop those human lips. Just take a look at this image that was photoshopped by a fan to demonstrate what they could look like (1), instead of what they actually look like (2).
The action in the movie looks good but the humor sounds like it errs on the stupid side. That’s not even necessarily a criticism except to say that all the cheesy humor that has been prevalent in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise is still present in this darker, more serious looking iteration. It’ll be interesting to see if that humor clashes with the rest of the movie but I’ll hold judgements until I actually see the film on August 8th. Based on this new trailer, I have to say I’m looking forward to seeing the movie (which seems to be an uncommon outlook here on the internet). I don’t expect greatness but I hope that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ends up being a fun summer movie. At the end of the day, that’s all I really want.
What do you think of this new trailer? Are you excited for some more TMNT?
