Synapse Films has announced the release date and special features for their Blu-ray release of director Richard Ciupka’s 1983 horror movie Curtains, starring John Vernon, Samantha Eggar, Linda Thorson, Anne Ditchburn, and Michael Wincott. The Canadian horror flick, which has not been seen on home video in over 30 years, will be making its debut on the format on July 8th.

I’m extremely excited about this release, being that I’m a horror enthusiast and love me some ’80s horror, but also because I’ve never seen the movie! In fact, I hadn’t heard about Curtains until back in October of 2011 when I was researching horror movie artwork for my 50 Awesome Horror Movie Posters post and came across the poster for the movie. I knew nothing about the movie but I liked the creepy and cool poster art for it enough to include it in the rankings. I’ve since been curious about the movie and so I was very excited when I chatted with Synapse’s Don May, Jr. at a recent Horror Hound Weekend convention and learned they were bringing the movie to Blu-ray.

Synapse has long been a company that makes quality paramount with their releases so fans can be rest assured that the horror classic is in excellent hands. As far as I’m concerned, they’ve proven time and time again that what they put out means a lot to them and are proud of the products they release. It sounds like it’s no different with Curtains which will be getting an all new high-definition transfer and a new making-of retrospective. Below is the synopsis of the movie as well as the details of the release. You can pre-order Curtains on Blu-ray over at Synapse’s website.

A group of women gather for a weekend casting call at the secluded mansion of director Jonathan Stryker (Vernon). He’s searching for the perfect woman to play the role of the crazed character “Audra”, and these women are just dying for the chance to play her! Stryker’s last star, Samantha Sherwood (Eggar), is so determined to get the part, she committed herself to an asylum to prepare for the role. Unfortunately for all, a crazed killer in a disgusting “hag” mask is viciously murdering everyone one by one. Who will survive the final curtain call?
