I love Raimi’s Spider-man films. His first and second Spidey movies were both incredible and I love them. The third is a little spotty but there are still things in it that I like. Despite not wanting another reboot of the story, I went into Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-man with hope. After all, Spider-man is my favorite superhero so of course I want his movies to be good. Sadly, I cannot say the reboot was of great quality. Besides some pretty awesome Spidey visuals, the movie lacked a lot in the writing department and they played with Peter Parker’s “mysterious” past unnecessarily. I wish that element could just be forgotten as we move on with new Spidey stories but Peter’s past looks to be playing another big role here.
Despite that unwanted story element and the fact that the reboot was less than spectacular, I once again approach this sequel with hope. I know it looks like we’re getting a lot of villains in this flick and we all know that didn’t work so well in Spider-man 3. However, word on the street is that the Rhino is just in the opening of the movie and Electro might be taking a back seat to Harry Osborn. While nothing is confirmed, it definitely looks like they’re building to a Sinister Six movie in the third film. I’m all for this as long as they give due service to the story and characters. No one wants a bad Spider-man movie, so let’s hope Webb has learned from his mistakes on the first one and has nailed this one.
