Want a Veronica Mars movie? You can help Kickstart it!

Veronica Mars season 3 intro

Veronica Mars fans, the time is now to put your money where your mouth is!  We’ve all clamored for the rumored Veronica Mars movie since the show’s cancellation and creator Rob Thomas wants it as much as you do.  Now, you can not only say that you want a Veronica Mars movie, but you can contribute to help getting it made through the new Kickstarter project set up by Rob Thomas himself.  Kristen Bell is on board, Warner Bros has given Thomas and Bell their blessing to move forward with the movie IF the Kickstarter is successfully funded.  That’s right VM fans, the only thing between a Veronica Mars movie and us is.. well, us.  We’ve been given a wonderful opportunity to not only demand the content we want but allow it to happen by financing it ourselves.  This is a big step in getting studios to notice the voice of the fans and see that there are possibilities for creating crowd-funded entertainment based on beloved properties. The Veronica Mars Kickstarter is the last hail mary in getting the movie made (Rob Thomas has tried many times over the years but hasn’t had anyone to back it) so if you want more Veronica Mars, it quite literally is up to you now.

As of this post, the project has raised over $700,000 of its $2 million goal, which would make it the largest amount raised for a film on Kickstarter ever.  It has the next 30 days to do so and hopefully by that time (or sooner), we will hear that the Veronica Mars movie is a go (again, should it meet its goal).  I love all three seasons of the show, which are all available on DVD now, and consider it to be amongst my favorite TV shows ever.  I think the character of Veronica Mars would translate well to a film and I’m incredibly hopeful that the Kickstarter will be funded and we’ll get to see more of the characters from the show.

Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell both wrote in on the Kickstarter page to let the fans know as much as possible in regards to the Kickstarter campaign, as well as making a pretty hilarious video that you all should watch before/after you decide to donate to the project.  Here’s a snippet of what Rob Thomas wrote over on the Kickstarter page:

Life has taken Veronica away from Neptune. In the years since spoiling Keith’s chances to be reelected sheriff, Veronica hasn’t taken a case. But something big is about to bring her back home and back to her calling. My goal is to include as many of your favorite characters as possible. It is, after all, time for Veronica’s 10-year high school reunion. Keep in mind that the more money we raise, the cooler movie we can make. A two million dollar fundraising total probably means cross words are exchanged at the class reunion. Three million? We can afford a full-on brawl. Ten million? Who knows… For some reason the Neptune High class reunion takes place on a nuclear submarine! A Hobbit shows up! There’s a Bollywood end-credit dance number! I’ve always wanted to direct Bill Murray. We’ll figure out something cool. Hey, if that total goes high enough, I’ll bet the good folks at Warner Bros. will agree a sequel is a good idea.

So head on over to the Veronica Mars Movie Kickstarter page (here) and help fund it!  Then spread the word through Twitter, Facebook, word of mouth, whatever it takes to get the word out there!  Let’s make a movie people.

Over 2.5 million now…amazing! Rob Thomas and KBell must feel so good right now knowing that they created something that fans are fighting so much to have. And we won! And the money is still coming in droves. All good things – time to rewatch the series!

Donated, blogged, and am tweeting up a storm. This really is an amazing opportunity and from the looks of the donations (going up and up and now at 746,013!) it looks like it’s going to happen!
