The Trailer for Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing!

The time has finally arrived to get a first look at Joss Whedon’s newest film, Much Ado About Nothing!  The first trailer for Whedon’s adaptation of William Shakespeare’s famous play has hit the web to wow your eyeballs with the beautiful black and white image imagery.  It looks pretty fantastic and I cannot wait to see the film when it hits theaters on June 7!

I’ll be the first to admit that Shakespeare’s work has always been a bit aloof to me.  Shakespearean language, at least back in my high school days, was always frustrating for me and I could never really get into the stories as a result of said frustration.  I’ve never gone back to try to read any of his work, an err on my part no doubt, but if there is one person who will get me pumped to tackle the Shakespearean language once again, it’s Joss Whedon.  The trailer looks incredible and, as a fan of Whedon’s previous works, the cast is a bit of a dream team gathering of some of my favorite Whedon actors.  Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker, who just happened to be my two favorite actors from Whedon’s Angel, are mixing up their romantic chemistry once again and I couldn’t be more excited for it.  On top of those two incredibly talented actors, we have Fran Kranz, Sean Maher, Tom Lenk, Reed Diamond, Clark Gregg, Ashley Johnson, Rikki Lindhome and, last but not least, Nathan Fillion!  That’s a pretty damn great cast.

What’s impressive about Much Ado About Nothing is that Whedon made the film with his own money, shot it at his house, gathered as many of his actor friends as he could to make the movie during a small break he had while shooting The Avengers.  This movie is the epitome of a “passion project.”  Whedon has always been very vocal about his love of Shakespeare and instead of taking a break from the pressures of big budget filmmaking, he made something he felt he had to make.  I think his passion for the material will shine through in his take on the story and the results sound like it shows.  There have been some who have been fortunate enough to have seen the movie and the word of mouth is very positive.

Whedon is currently on his way down to SXSW to show the movie at the festival in Austin.  If you are going to SXSW, I hope you have plans to see it.
