So I know I’m a little late to the game with presenting the teaser trailer to Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem since it was released a little while ago but I wanted to mention it because I think it looks rather fascinating. I think Rob Zombie is an incredibly interesting filmmaker that doesn’t always direct films that agree with everyone and that is fine by me. I like that Zombie, with exception to his remake of Halloween, does his own thing. I liked his Halloween II. Despite working within the confines of an iconic franchise, he still managed to add his own flavor and made Michael Myers such a beast, with each stab of his knife feeling incredibly brutal and his presence incredibly imposing. The Devil’s Rejects is, to date, Zombie’s best film and really showed that he’s a unique, if not divisive, filmmaker. I’m glad Zombie’s out there doing his thing, even if I don’t always agree with what he’s doing, though so far I’ve liked most of his decisions.
With The Lords of Salem, it looks like Zombie is changing up his cinematography a bit for something a little more restrained. The footage in the teaser looks beautiful and evokes a Kubrickian feeling. The music of the teaser definitely helps add to that notion. I like seeing Sheri Moon Zombie trying out the lead role as I have enjoyed her in Zombie’s previous films. I really cannot wait to see this and wish I could watch it now (of course) but it looks like I have to wait until sometime in 2013.
Feel free to chime in with your thoughts on the teaser. Do you like what you’re seeing so far?
