Popcorn News – July 19: Comic-Con Edition

Marvel revealed concept art for their newly announced film, Guardians of the Galaxy, which will be released on Aug. 1, 2014.  They also revealed the official titles for two upcoming sequels, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Thor: The Dark World, and showed test footage at Comic-Con for the Edgar Wright directed Ant-Man, which has yet to receive a release date. Quentin Tarantino told an audience at Comic-Con that the entire first draft of the Django Unchained script will be turned into a five-part comic mini-series with story aspects not in the movie.  He also stated that Django and his wife Broomhilda Von Shaft are the great, great, great grandparents of John Shaft. Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman sat down with EW at Comic-Con and stated that they are pursuing a Hellboy 3 movie.  “I can say publicly that now we are together in trying [to do Hellboy 3],” del Toro said.  Ron Perlman added to that, “Everything that was done in both movies was leading up to this destiny, written in stone, of what Hellboy has been summoned to Earth to do.  To not do it, particularly in light of the scope that Guillermo is thinking of for the resolve, would be in my mind a little bit of a shame.”  (EW)

Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is in negotiations to play the Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  The Joe and Anthony Russo directed sequel will hit theaters on April 4, 2014. (Hollywood Reporter)

Wes Anderson’s next film The Grand Budapest Hotel has already lined up some of its cast with Johnny Depp, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Angela Lansbury set to star. (Twitch)

Ronald D. Moore, the mastermind behind SyFy’s Battlestar Galactica, is pitching a new TV series to various cable channels based upon the Scottish fantasy Outlander novels by Diana Gabaldon. (Deadline)

Peter Jackson revealed at Comic-Con that there are discussions to shoot more material next year for what could be an extended edition of the second Hobbit film or for an entirely new third film.  “I’d like to shoot a bunch more material that we [couldn’t] shoot.  There’s so much good stuff in the appendices that we haven’t been able to squeeze into these movies,” Jackson said.  (HitFix)

Universal has officially greenlit Edgar Wright’s The World’s End which he co-wrote with Simon Pegg and co-stars Nick Frost.  The movie is the concluding chapter in the Three Colours Cornetto trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End) created by Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.  A teaser poster has also been created for the film. On Oct. 30th of this year, Criterion will release the 1968 classic horror film Rosemary’s Baby on blu-ray with a newly restored high-definition transfer approved by director Roman Polanski. (Criterion)

Actor Thomas Jane premiered a Punisher fan film at Comic-Con that he starred in along with Ron Perlman (Hellboy).  He stated he still loves the character, has a desire to play him and wanted to do the character of Frank Castle justice. WARNING: The video is graphic and NSFW. (Ain’t It Cool News)

    I’d like to see Thomas Jane have the chance to take another crack at a Punisher movie. It’s rather obvious he really wants to do the character justice.
