Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg And Nick Frost Team Up For The World’s End!

Deadline is reporting that Working Title and Edgar Wright will start filming The World’s End in September for a spring 2013 release.  The film has been dubbed the final film in the Three Flavours of Cornetto trilogy, of which Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are a part of.  Much like those films, Edgar Wright will be directing from a script that he and Simon Pegg wrote with Pegg and Nick Frost starring.  Universal hasn’t officially greenlit the film but are expected to.

We haven’t really been privy to any information regarding what to expect with The World’s End but in addition to the news of the potential start date, we’ve been given a logline that gives us an idea for what the basic story is. “20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

I’m pretty excited for this.  I love both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz and knew that all three guys were wanting to do a third film together but were unsure of when it would happen.  Edgar Wright has a few other projects he’s developing like Marvel’s Ant-man and the Kolchak: The Night Stalker movie with Johnny Depp that were making their reunion uncertain.  I’m glad that The World’s End will be Wright’s next as I think the three guys do exceptional work when creating something together and as much as I’d like to see those other projects, The World’s End was always the one I wanted to see happen the most.  For the last of their hodgepodge of genre movies trilogy, I think it’s fitting that the story be centered on the end of the world and what sounds like something potentially out of the sci-fi genre.  I hope they give us one hell of a finale!

This really is the best news I’ve heard in a while. Frost, Pegg and Wright together once more is a dream come true and I’m thankful that, even in the face of their increasing successes as they develop their separate careers, they are coming back together to give the fans what they truly want.

Love Simon Pegg. Hopefully this one will be better than the dreadful Paul (2011)!

If you get a chance, check out Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. If you like him from Star Trek, I think you’ll like him even more after those two films. He’s really funny but can bring a lot of gravity to his role on top of that.

I have to admit I had no idea who Simon Pegg was until the reboot of the Star Trek franchise, but now I see him everywhere. I’ll look forward to this movie. )
