Expendables 2 To Be Rated R!

Hell to the frickin’ yes!  A little while ago, it was reported that Expendables 2 was going to be PG-13, unlike it’s predecessor which was R-rated.  This didn’t really sit all that well with fans who were looking forward to the sequel and hoping they would up the ante on the violence just as they had done with expanding its cast.  At the time, it seemed that one of the reasons that Expendables 2 was going to carry the PG-13 rating was because of Chuck Norris’ involvement, who wanted foul language cut out because he doesn’t do R-rated movies (anymore).

Over at StalloneZone though, they have a quote from Stallone himself saying “after taking in all the odd rumors and hearsay, Expendables 2 is an R.”  So apparently someone has changed their minds in regards to the rating or some of the rumors that were going around had gotten out of control and were being reported as fact, which happens.

This overjoys me to no end and re-solidifies the sequel as one of my most anticipated films of the year.  A PG-13 Expendables 2 seemed like a step in the wrong direction for a sequel that is looking to top itself.  Besides having more of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis in the new film, we are being treated to additions like Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris, so it was easy to assume that more action legends equates to even more badass action!  Confirming that the sequel is R will definitely set some worries aside and I can once again be 100% pumped for the film.  All I want from the movie is to see these action stars perform violence that Stallone has shown he can do since 2008’s Rambo.  It’s visceral, exciting good fun that will put some hair on your chest.  Now if someone would just give them money to do some reshoots where they can include Gina Carano (Haywire) in the proceedings.

As someone who grew up during the era of these action movies, I have to think that this is a good move.

Fans are going to be expecting a healthy dose of violence and snappy one-liners. This has the potential for great summer fare.
