Mel Gibson is in serious discussions to join the Robert Rodriguez directed sequel, Machete Kills.  Danny Trejo will return as the machete wielding titular character and it is unknown what role Gibson would be playing in the film at this time.  (Deadline)

Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life, The Help) is in talks to join the cast of Iron Man 3.  She’d be playing a scientist that is every bit as smart as Tony Stark.  She will join returning stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, as well as the potential additions of Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley. A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, will premiere in front of prints of Marvel’s The Avengers on May 4th. (Nolan Fans)

Legendary filmmaker Roger Corman will be producing his first 3D film with Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleader.  The 86-year old filmmaker has hired Kevin O’Neill, a visual effects artist, to direct and the film will star Sean Young, Treat Williams and former Miss Teen USA contestant Jena Sims. New stills from Quentin Tarantino’s next film, Django Unchained, have been released.  They feature first looks at Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio. (Entertainment Weekly)

Walt Disney Studios announced that Gore Verbinski’s upcoming The Lone Ranger will feature a score by Jack White of The White Stripes fame.  The film is scheduled to open on May 31, 2013.  (Comingsoon.net)

Michael Jai White (Freaky Deaky, Black Dynamite) has said that he hopes to begin shooting Black Dynamite 2 by the end of the year.  He stated the possibility that the faux-blaxploitation angle may undergo a revamp for the 80s. (Indie Wire)

It appears a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a go.  At CinemaCon, Tom Rothman mentioned the sequel as being one of a few films that he hopes to have in production by the end of the summer.  The Wolverine and Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse were also mentioned. (Comingsoon.net)

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, M:I 3) have been hired by Sony to write the sequel for The Amazing Spider-Man which would hit theaters in 2014.  (Badass Digest)

Universal Pictures has pushed back the release date of the Keanu Reeves led action film 47 Ronin.  The film, directed by Carl Rinsch, will now open on Feb. 8, 2013.  (Comingsoon.net)

FOX has renewed Fringe for a final fifth season that will be made up of 13 episodes and will provide closure to the series. (Ain’t It Cool News)

    Two things that super excite me in this post: 1)Django Unchained (I had not heard of it but sounds amazing) and 2) a Jack White score. Score! ;)
    I’m glad Fringe is getting a chance to wrap up but I’m sad it’s getting canceled. Such a brilliant show. The perfect time to dress as Fauxlivia for DragonCon I suppose! :D

      Yea, the fact that Jack White is doing the score just got pretty excited to see The Lone Ranger. I’m curious to hear what a score by him would sound like.
